KIVA Microloans![]() Bolton Rotary has been funding microloans through KIVA over the past few years. Last year we made 258 loans in 25 countries. The default rate for these loans is less than 1%. These loans make life-altering changes to their income capability. Here is a story about Editha. She is 55 years old, separated mother with two children. She lives in the Western region of Uganda. She's a hardworking woman who's mostly a farmer. Editha owns a banana and maize plantation as her major source of income. They have been challenged by low yields during the harvest season due to lack of fertilizers. This loan will enable Editha to increase harvest. Crop farmers may use the funding for agricultural inputs such as farm machinery, tools, pesticides, seeds, etc, This is just one heartwarming story of how our club makes a difference in the world. |

Soul Soup![]() Bolton Rotary is off and running!... we made our third batch May 3 with an enthusiastic group of volunteers. To make a donation please email boltonrotary@gmail.com and we can arrange pickup or delivery. Thanks Think about the winter weather and how different types of soup warm the soul. We will cook once a month and make giant vats of soup to freeze for patrons of the Exchange. "Soul Soup" is a comforting, nourishing dish often associated with warmth, healing, and emotional comfort. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a metaphor for something that feeds not only the body but also the spirit. A Soul Soup might be made with wholesome ingredients like stock, canned tomatoes, olive oil, spices, legumes... simmered slowly to create a rich, flavorful broth. The key to its essence is the care and love put into its preparation, which makes it feel like a cozy hug in a bowl. |

Proceeds for the night went to Shop With a First Responder and World's Biggest Meal for Polio. Our RI theme this year is the Magic of Rotary and we took the liberty to extend that to Christmas Magic – a time to recall and make memories. A video presentation of people and events over the past 75 years ran throughout the evening. It was a night to remember and reminisce. |

This is a world wide organization, active in over 80 countries, that administers micro loans to individuals, mostly single mothers. The Club became involved a few years ago with an initial investment of $5000 USD. This money is loaned out in small amounts, generally to purchase agricultural supplies or equipment, and is then paid back over time to then be re-loaned to the next recipient. There are partner agencies in the local area that administer the applications and the loans, and Dave keeps a close on the applications and the money. Millions of soldiers on both sides had been killed and wounded in battles that brought the war no closer to an end....keep reading |

75th anniversary of United Nations/Rotary involvement. Did you know? Rotary was instrumental in establishing the United Nations following the Second World War. From April to June 1945, delegations from 50 nations attended the United Nations Conference on international organization in San Francisco, with the task of writing a charter which was acceptable to all of them. Rotary International was one of 42 organizations asked to serve as consultants.
