Coleraine Park - Animal Shelter

Thank you again for Rotary Club of Bolton's generous donation towards the Bolton & District Horticulture Societies (BDHS) Foundry Park Tree Planting Project in 2015 plus your support for many other of our Environmental Projects over the last 12+ years.

We have launched a new project in 2016 called the "Coleraine Park Environmental Reforestation Project" to restore an approximate 7 acres parcel of Town of Caledon owned property on Coleraine Drive that is adjacent to the Animal Shelter (12889 Coleraine Drive). This property is devoid of trees and shrubs with the exception of a few scrubby specimens. The Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) have already committed $10,000 towards this Project and we are in the process of applying for funding to raise another $13,500 from local sources plus the Ontario Community Environmental Fund (OCEF) which is a major Ontario Environmental Funding Agency.

A side bar to this Project is to plant approximately 15 mature native coniferous shade trees in the two fenced - in "Off - Leash areas", adjacent to the Animal Shelter, to provide shade for the staff and the dogs they provide care for. There are currently no trees or shrubs in these two areas which is cruel to the dogs and very uncomfortable for the staff and their volunteers during hot sunny days.
